Welcome
This site is going to be used for the band This Morning as a platform for our music and also whatever ideas come to mind. It would be a great help to the band if anyone who finds this would spread the world and encourage others to check out our music. We are an kind of an experimental acoustic rock group trying to solidify ourselves. So thank you for reading and be sure to check us out on Facebook!
Art Critics
I thought I would start this site off with my take on the current situation, as I see it, with music and art critics in general.
So many things can be expressed through art, whether it’s a painting or a poem. I have great respect for people who can do that well and I am humbled when I see their work. And now when we see or hear art, like a song or painting, we try to analyze every piece of it and dissect as much as possible. Then once we have divulged as much information as possible we decide that we now know everything about that piece and that what we say the artist was thinking when the piece was made IS what the artist was thinking. But I’ve always struggled with that idea especially the certainty with which we come to these conclusions. How can we being so distant from the creation of a piece and still think of ourselves as so intelligent as to be able to identify without a doubt every nuance and symbol that is transmitted in a piece.
And how dare we minimalize a person’s expansive thought process to a mere collection of words. The reason the art was created was to express what words couldn’t. As a musician and song writer I can also say that a lot of what I write has a very different meaning or intention than what a listener interprets. I just find it so arrogant of people to believe they know what an artist thinks and says. I will concede that there are hints that allow us to receive the message the artist is transmitting but I just want people to become more aware of the fact that an artist’s mind is too complex for us to understand and sometimes even for the artist himself to understand. Respect the art.
